Integration guide
Use Claude to edit video with FluidCut MCP.
FluidCut connects to Claude through a hosted MCP server at fluidcut.app/mcp. After you sign in, Claude can clip a YouTube video, prepare an edit from an upload, write a directed edit plan, check job progress and return download links. You can also install FluidCut in Claude Code with the documented MCP setup.

How do I connect FluidCut to Claude?
In Claude, add FluidCut as a custom connector and sign in with your FluidCut account.
- Open Claude settings and choose Customize, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector, enter the name
FluidCutand URLhttps://fluidcut.app/mcp. - Connect, sign in on FluidCut and allow the connection. Team and Enterprise workspaces may require an owner to add the connector first.
Claude Code can connect using the hosted HTTP server and an API key held in your shell environment. Follow the official FluidCut install guide and tool guide for exact setup steps. Treat the key as a password. Do not paste it into prompts or commit it to a repository.
Which video tasks can Claude do through MCP?
Claude can start and track clipping and editing jobs, inspect source transcripts, render directed plans and retrieve finished files.
create_clipsstarts a clip job from one YouTube video.upload_videoprepares a browser upload or a command for a local file.edit_videoprepares an edit from a YouTube link or uploaded file.start_editrenders a prepared edit using FluidCut's editor.get_sourcereturns words, timestamps, sentences and camera shots for a directed edit.render_planrenders a plan that Claude writes from the source data.request_changecreates a new version from a plain-language change.job_statusandget_resultstrack jobs and return file links.list_looksandcredit_balanceshow available looks, formats, rates and balance.
Can Claude make a directed edit plan?
Yes. A directed edit lets Claude inspect the transcript and camera shots, write a plan and ask FluidCut to render it.
- Ask Claude to prepare an edit with
edit_video(directed=true). - Wait for the job to reach
needs-input, then callget_source. - Have Claude create exact keep ranges and scene instructions from the source words and shots.
- Call
render_plan, checkjob_status, and useget_resultsfor the finished MP4.
For example, ask: “Make a 45-second vertical edit about the pricing point. Keep the sentence that explains the change, use the camera shot where I face the lens, and put the key number on screen.” The plan is a request for review, not a guarantee that every visual instruction fits the source footage.
What video inputs does the MCP server accept?
MCP clipping accepts a single YouTube video link; file uploads are used in the edit workflow.
For your own file, call upload_video with its name and exact size, then run the returned upload command or give the one-time browser link to the person with the file. Supported file types are MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV, up to 2 GB. Playlists and non-YouTube links are not accepted by create_clips.
How many credits do Claude jobs use?
Check credit_balance and list_looks before a job because price depends on the selected operation and format.
Standard clipping costs 1 credit per source minute, while other clip looks may use a different rate. Editing costs 3 credits per source minute for each output format plus 1 credit per minute for planning. A requested change costs 3 credits per source minute per format. File upload and preparation are free. Review the estimate before asking Claude to render. See FluidCut pricing for plan amounts and monthly credits.
What prompts work well with FluidCut MCP?
Give Claude a source, an outcome, format requirements and any lines to keep or remove.
- “Clip this YouTube episode into vertical moments. Keep the full question and answer together, and show me the selection reasons before I download.”
- “Edit this uploaded lesson into one landscape video. Remove pauses and retakes, keep the formula explanation, and add captions.”
- “Make a directed edit from this transcript. Use only complete sentences from 02:10 to 04:00 and add a title for each scene.”
- “Check the credit estimate first, then tell me when the render is ready.”
Specific boundaries help. Avoid asking for a filler-word pass, an edit export file for Premiere, live-stream capture through MCP, or a feature that is not listed in the current tools.
What should I know before connecting Claude?
FluidCut runs jobs on your account's credits, so review the estimated cost and requested change before a render.
Can Claude clip a file from my computer?
Yes, through the upload and edit flow. The create_clips MCP tool itself accepts YouTube links only.
Does the MCP integration include live stream clipping?
No. Live capture is available through the FluidCut web app in beta, not through the MCP tool list.
Where can I find full setup instructions?
See the install guide and FluidCut tool guide.
